Happy Tuesday!
As health care providers who are considered more “alternative” than mainstream (although chiropractic is nearly mainstream at this point, hypnotherapy is still considered pretty alternative) we tend to see patients AFTER they’ve tried the “normal” medical route and had little success. We have an amazing “sick care” system in America, and I personally wouldn’t want to be anywhere else if I was injured or suffered trauma. But our current medical paradigm doesn’t address well nearly 75% of what ails us.
Chronic pain affects millions of people a day, and I am always boggled by how long people suffer. I had a consult last week with a woman who has been in pain for nearly 6 years. YEARS. Not days, or weeks, or even six months. But YEARS.
If your car wasn’t working right for 6 years, would you get it looked at? And if your mechanic told you the tires were shot, the axle was bent, and it was affecting the transmission, would you then switch to 91 gasoline and change the oil? No, of course not. You’d fix the tires, axle and transmission. But in our current model, if someone has chronic back pain (for example) they’re given anti-inflammatories and/or muscle relaxers. How does a chemical solution solve a structural problem?
Or let’s say you have headaches or stomach ulcers that started after an emotional trauma or major stressful event. How will a pain reliever or acid blocker help you deal with the physical messages your body is sending you in response to a stress level that is out of control? How does a chemical problem solve an emotional issue?
Next week, It’s A Pair-A-Docs will be talking about chronic pain, and steps you can take to help it. This is a great show to get your friends, family and co-workers listening to, especially if they suffer from headaches, digestion issues, or any pain for longer than 2 months.
Dr. Phil Harrington of K-Laser will be our guest, and you’ll learn how new technology is another great tool that helps your body heal itself faster.
If you have specific questions you’d like us to address, please leave a comment!
