I’m So Excited!~by Dr. Vicky Thomas

I love it when something comes together!  The Christmas season is upon us, and traditionally I slow down a bit.  Work slows because people are so busy “doing the Holiday stuff.”  So I get to spend a bit more time focusing on what I want.  What DO I want?  World Peace?  North America Peace? United States Peace? California Peace?  Well, ok, I’ll settle for Peace in my own head!

Ok, so that was a bit of an exageration of a behavior that people do.  My point is this: only focus on what you can change.  I have the luxury of helping many people change, but guess what?  I only focus on the ones I can help.  That would be the ones who are willing to help themselves.  I don’t focus on my family or friend’s behavior, unless the ask me to, and unless they are willing to make the necessary changes they need to make.

So take a load off…  a load of worry and stress this holiday season.  And only focus on what you can change.  Yourself.   Nuff said.

Holiday Ideas, Keep it simple.~by Dr. Vicky Thomas

Many years ago when my son was 3, we sat at a loaded Thanksgiving table with many family members.  We said a prayer where each of us was asked to say one thing we were thankful for.  Everyone said the normal things, family, friends, abundance, jobs, and then came my son’s turn.  He brought us all to silence when he said, “Thank you God, for all of us, and thank you God for Jello!”  (The silence lasted a moment, then the laughter lasted quite awhile.) I thank God for Jello every year now.

Here are just a few simple ways to keep it simple:

1.  Each Holiday lasts only 1 day.  Relish the time with your family, eat well, but don’t eat till your belly hurts(!) and then get some physical movement going on.  Take the family for a walk, play WII, run around the yard chasing your kids, just do it!  Play like you were 8 years old.

2.  Holiday parties are to socialize, not to binge eat or binge drink (you really look stupid with a lampshade on your head!) So again, enjoy the people, the conversation, eat wisely and enjoy the party.  Dance if it’s the activity of the evening.

3.  Holiday Stress is only pressure you put on yourself.  So STOP IT.  Cut out the 200 person gift giving.  That’s  superficial anyway.  If finances are tight this year as they are for so many families, shop after Christmas – adults don’t really care, and children LOVE gifts in January.  Pick only the important people in your life, and give a simple gift of love.

4.  If you’re promising yourself a habit change for a New Years Resolution, start now.  5-10 pound of weight loss during the Holidays is easy.  And imagine how much you could release in January if you lose 5-10 in December.  Or if you’ve decided to quit smoking do it now!  It’s not easier in January. It’s easier NOW.

5.  Truly be thankful.  Look around you and recognize the beauty God gave us and all of the things there are to be thankful for.  Simplicity is ok.  I AM THANKFUL TO YOU, WHO ARE THERE FOR ME! And I’ thankful for simple things – like Jello.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you, my friends, family, and friends I hope to know.

Anti-depressants to stop smoking? Are you kidding us??

OK, today’s show was inspired by a Facebook post over the weekend about a friend who started smoking again and after being off cigarettes for a while.

To say I was stunned is an understatement. Today’s show talks all about it.

What? Wheat?~by Dr. Vicky Thomas

Ok, the last few days I keep hearing references to gluten sensitivities, allergies, and a general amount of bitching and moaning.   So its like this.  You have migraines, or arthritis, or fibromyalgia, or joint pain, or the blues, or chronic fatigue, or sinus problems, or lack of motivation, or you’re getting fat, or your bitchy, or your kids are always sick…(are you getting the idea I’m on a weirdly non-specific rant? If so, you’re right.)  The rant is this: STOP COMPLAINING AND START LIVING YOUR LIFE!

So if you’ve listened to the show at all, you understand we want to help.  And my guess is that 99% of all clients who show up in our offices, have one or more of these complaints.

Our first line of defense is to change your physiology.  We can do this by helping you stand up straight and breathe.  Dr. Mills can do an adjustment that assists that process.  I can talk you through some amazing change work that does the same.   That’s a full on simple strategy for external physiological change.

Here’s where the rant begins.  If you eat crap. YOU WILL FEEL LIKE CRAP.  When it comes to simple changes like “change the way you’re eating.” Many of you respond, “It’s too haaaard.”  (say that in a very whiny voice, I mean really whiny.)  Or even better yet, say, “I can’t do that, my family would suffer.”  B.S.  Your family would thrive by giving up processed sugar, processed wheat, high fructose corn syrup, AND ITS EASY!  Four simple steps:

1. GO RIGHT NOW AND CLEAN OUT YOUR FRIDGE, PANTRY, AND ANY OTHER AREA YOU HIDE FOOD AND THROW OUT ANYTHING WITH HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, PROCESSED WHEAT OR GLUTEN, AND ALL FORMS OF MSG AND ASPARTAME.  JUST DO IT AND DO IT TODAY.  *

2.  Go to the store and buy FRESH fruits and vegetables.  Lots of  them.  You’ll be hungry.  THAT’S GOOD! It means you’re eating right and burning the fuel.  Limit protein to the size of the palm of your hand.

3.  Get a MINIMUM of 20 minutes of exercise per day.  Walk. Run. Dance in your living room.  DO IT.

4.  Drink WATER!  Carbonated beverages are evil.  DRINK 1/2 oz of water per pound of body weight.  (If you weigh 200 pounds drink 100 ounces of water.)

*If you are seriously toxic from the poisons you’ve been taking, you could suffer from flu- like symptoms.  Hang in there, you’ve become toxic and need to do this even more!

We have several shows relating to this topic, and several written documents to help you stop making yourself miserable.  Go for it.
